Journey into the secret history of the Colosseum

Colosseum sunrise

Any tour guide can tell you how many people the Colosseum could seat or why it has all those holes in its masonry, but with me, in addition to these basic facts, you’ll also learn the secret history of the Colosseum!
Did you know, for example, that the Colosseum was used as a market in the Middle Ages and that it was dangerous to go there at night after the stalls closed? In fact, it was the haunt of the city’s worst robbers, sorcerers and crooks, who got up to some very nasty nocturnal activities!
The amphitheatre where gladiators fought to the death and the nearby Roman Forum are the highlights of our fascinating journey through time and, if we have time at the end of the tour, I often take my visitors up onto the adjacent Palatine Hill, because the view from there is unique and simply AMAZING!

Highlights and hidden gems

Trevi Fountain

How many “different faces” does Rome have and what strange secrets are concealed behind the city’s highlights like the Spanish Steps, the Trevi Fountain, the Pantheon, Piazza del Popolo and Piazza Navona? In fact, in addition to these well-known locations, there are a host of other marvellous and fascinating things to explore. These are what I call the “hidden gems”.
Unfortunately, visitors can all too easily miss the chance to experience these unexpected treasures, if they go on the usual lightning tours. Instead, if you want to discover some really special churches, curious fountains, delightful courtyards and breath-taking views, as well as seeing the most famous tourist sights, then this tour is definitely the right choice for you!

The Rome of the Popes

Vatican Museum

Visiting the vast complex of the Vatican Museums can be a confusing and disorienting experience, due to the long queues and jostling groups of tourists. This can lead to hours of stressful waiting, but don't worry, with me you will jump the lines as much as possible and avoid the crowds, as I give you and your friends or family a private tour through this extraordinary place, so that you can experience it in a very effective and personal way!
On this tour we will visit the main rooms and galleries leading to the Sistine Chapel, one of the most important sites of the Catholic church, where the papal elections take place and where you can admire the world-famous frescoes by Michelangelo showing the Genesis stories and the Last Judgement. Then we will visit St. Peter's Basilica (without having to queue up like the other visitors!) and, in addition to the usual explanations, I will give you the “hidden history of the Vatican”, which is absolutely AMAZING!

Another side of Rome: the Ghetto and Trastevere

Campo de Fiori

Would you like to discover more of Rome than just the classic sites (the Colosseum, the Vatican, the Trevi Fountain, etc.)? If so, this tour will be perfect for you! Let yourself be seduced by the charming alleyways and hidden corners of the ancient Centro Storico and explore another side of the Eternal City with me, while learning all about the fascinating local customs, delicious traditional cuisine and curious historical events.
One of the highlights of this tour is the historic district of Trastevere, a kind of “village within the city”, but we will also visit the Tiber Island, the Jewish Ghetto and Campo de Fiori,
a square where a picturesque fruit and vegetable market presents a colourful spectacle that no visitor to Rome should miss!
